Stella was the codename for the Atari 2600 when it was in development, so I gave Pratt's death ray interface system the same name in tribute. Pratt's irritated banter with the aloof artificial intelligence juxtaposes with his intent to murder a few hundred people at the press of a button. He's trying to have a serious evil moment here, and Stella is ruining everything!

The idea with Mike and Renee here is that they'll either die of heat stroke before Pratt fires the death ray, or die instantly when he fires and heats up the room to some thousands of degrees or whatever. Their dialogue here is supposed to poke fun at the kind of commentary you would hear in Saturday morning cartoons, where there's always the one guy there to remind everybody else (and presumably the audience) of the dire circumstances at hand. I guess it's helpful for the kids watching, but it sure must be annoying for the other characters, as Renee demonstrates here.
