Original Release Date: July 14, 2004

My friends and I had a brief obsession with sass and "don't you sass me" jokes at around this time. It's a little hard to explain, but everything was sass-this and don't-you-sass-that. It found its way into the comic in the form of Sass 'n' Gas, a chain of convenience stores which instructs its employees to sass their clientele. It works because they're out in the desert somewhere, and there aren't exactly a lot of convenience store options.

I drew this comic (and the next three or four) as part of a 24-Hour Comics Day, where I sat in my friend Josh's basement for 24 hours and drew comics to try to build up a buffer, while friends came and went throughout the day. It was kind of like a 24-hour party, but it wasn't wild and crazy and probably involved a lot of Mario Kart and Smash Bros. My productivity could have been better; I'm pretty sure I initiated this 24-hour drawing marathon immediately after putting in a day at work and playing dodgeball for a few hours. Proper planning was never one of my strengths. I never did fall asleep, though.
